Why would a private lawyer be prosecuting a criminal case?

He’s a criminal attorney! I may have some lingering language from an earlier draft still left in the post. I’ll double check for consistency. Thanks for the heads up!

The DA typically get warrants and presents cases to the GJ, while the alleged perp is the one who hires a criminal (defense) attorney.

Thanks for the feedback! I used the wrong term then. The client mentioned in the story is the investigator on the case, with Gus as the DA/prosecutor. My understanding was that filing a complaint was one way to procure a warrant, and that while a grand jury indictment is needed either way, a complaint can sometimes be a speedier path in urgent situations, with the grand jury looking at the case within 30 days of the arrest being made. Do I have that correct? If not, I'll make adjustments for future chapters and the second draft of this chapter.

Seems they can file a complaint but not prosecute the case, so I am unsure why Gus' agent would be looking for this. That is, it does not lead to billable hours....

Roger roger, thanks Chris! I'll make sure to adjust the office setting to make it more clear that Gus is with the DA's office, as he's the one who will be prosecuting the case.
